Description: Recent social and political events have brought focus to higher education and students which posits and examination of the urban higher education landscape in relation to issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion. In this course, attention will be given to topics such as student access, race and ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status, religion, sexuality, sexual orientation, disability, military status, undocumented students, commuter students, free speech, minority-serving institutions, policies, and practices. Higher education practitioners, administrators, and faculty will be invited throughout the course to provide insight and first-hand narratives in working at urban higher education institutions. Students will have an opportunity to examine policies and propose policy initiative to further equity and inclusion for students.
