LRSC 594 – Rational Numbers and Proportional Reasoning

Dates: 1/13/25-5/2/25

Credits: 4 graduate semester credit hours

Tuition/Fees: $530 per semester credit hour tuition.

Comments: This program has been approved by the Illinois State Board of Education to meet the requirements for the new Elementary Mathematics Specialist Endorsement.

The program includes five courses that will run sequentially (Fall 2023 through Spring 2025 including the summer semester). We ask applicants to anticipate being a part of a cohort planning to enroll in all five courses. At least two courses from this sequence are eligible to be applied as credits towards a Master’s degree at University of Illinois should you later decide to apply to a related Master’s degree-granting program.

Description: The second course in the Elementary Math Specialists sequence focuses on developing teachers’ conceptual understanding of rational numbers, making connections to earlier work with whole numbers and moving into working with multiplicative reasoning connecting work with fractions to ratio and proportional reasoning concepts.

Prerequisites: A Professional Educator’s License (PEL) and teaching experience equivalent to one full academic year. Program approval is required to enroll. Please contact the Kathleen at kapitvor@uic.edu
